Lead UX Designer - up to £65k
12th Mar 2018
For over a decade, we’ve helped everyone from startups to the world's biggest companies design and build digital products that are simple, beautiful and easy to use. To do this we need your talent; so we are looking to expand our dynamic and creative team.
2018 is an exciting time for us; we're growing and we want you to grow with us. Working in our sunny Brighton studio you’ll enjoy a competitive salary, generous benefits, exciting projects with high-profile brands, and a team you'll love working with. Oh, and plenty of snacks and drinks.
So, if you think we can put your talents to work, get in touch.
We’re looking for a Lead UX Designer with 8+ years’ experience to help us continue to create awesome experiences. You’ll have a hands-on, creative approach, with an enthusiasm to work end-to-end on a range of diverse projects. You’ll have strong agency and client-side experience and will be able to hit the ground running, working closely with clients from day one.
On a typical day on our studio you will be:
Using UX design and research methods to help users achieve their goals and clients to hit their strategic business objectives
Taking ownership of the user experience quality and consistency across your projects
Collaborating with all members of The Unit team from fellow UXers, IxD, Service and Visual Designers, to Developers and Senior Management, on a wide range of interesting digital projects
Using our dedicated usability testing lab for employing qualitative and quantitative methods to gather feedback, uncover user needs and generate design concepts that connect with customers
Leading communication of research findings, conceptual ideas and service strategy
UX Design Portfolio
Your portfolio should contain great examples of:
Evidence that you have captured and worked with business requirements and objectives, product KPIs and performance metrics
Stakeholder workshop outputs
Wireframes, component/pattern libraries, prototypes
Project research, user interviews and card sorting
UX Research Skillset
At The Unit we and our clients value the merits of research. We would love to see examples of where you have:
Discovered and documented users' mental models
Mapped user journeys and product experiences (online, offline and the interfaces between the two)
Created and analysed user surveys
Used different UX research and analysis tools to understand behavioural patterns
Created archetypal user personas
Skills Range and Toolset
In addition, you will have:
Strong problem-solving abilities and independent self-direction
Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to positively challenge both your colleagues and clients from day one
Experience of working using Agile and Lean methodologies
Strong client-facing skills
You should be a whizz at some or all of the following:
Axure, OmniGraffle, InVision, Sketch, Zeplin
You’ll be passionate about UX with a keen eye for detail and an interest in new technologies. You’ll value your personal development, so we’ll provide you with an annual training budget to spend on what really interests you and helps you to flourish.
A creative thinker with a strong work ethic, you’ll share our positive attitude and enthusiasm for learning. You’ll take part in regular Innovation Days and knowledge sharing sessions, so we really get to know what you're passionate about. You’ll also get the chance to take these ideas to the next level with leading-edge projects and new technology.
There are no lone wolves in our pack; we’re looking for a team player who can build rapport quickly. You’ll be working collaboratively with talented, creative colleagues and interesting clients who we see as partners, not just customers.
