Job description

We’re looking for a Lead UX Designer with 8+ years’ experience to help us continue to create awesome experiences. You’ll have a hands-on, creative approach, with an enthusiasm to work end-to-end on a range of diverse projects. You’ll have strong agency and client-side experience and will be able to hit the ground running, working closely with clients from day one.

On a typical day on our studio you will be:

  • Using UX design and research methods to help users achieve their goals and clients to hit their strategic business objectives

  • Taking ownership of the user experience quality and consistency across your projects

  • Collaborating with all members of The Unit team from fellow UXers, IxD, Service and Visual Designers, to Developers and Senior Management, on a wide range of interesting digital projects

  • Using our dedicated usability testing lab for employing qualitative and quantitative methods to gather feedback, uncover user needs and generate design concepts that connect with customers

  • Leading communication of research findings, conceptual ideas and service strategy

Skills range

UX Design Portfolio

Your portfolio should contain great examples of:

  • Expert reviews

  • Competitor analyses

  • Evidence that you have captured and worked with business requirements and objectives, product KPIs and performance metrics

  • Stakeholder workshop outputs

  • Wireframes, component/pattern libraries, prototypes

  • Sitemaps

  • Project research, user interviews and card sorting

UX Research Skillset

At The Unit we and our clients value the merits of research. We would love to see examples of where you have:

  • Discovered and documented users' mental models

  • Mapped user journeys and product experiences (online, offline and the interfaces between the two)

  • Created and analysed user surveys

  • Used different UX research and analysis tools to understand behavioural patterns

  • Created archetypal user personas

Skills Range and Toolset

In addition, you will have:

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and independent self-direction

  • Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to positively challenge both your colleagues and clients from day one

  • Experience of working using Agile and Lean methodologies

  • Strong client-facing skills

You should be a whizz at some or all of the following:

  • Axure, OmniGraffle, InVision, Sketch, Zeplin
