You’ll be working flexibly between our central Soho office and sunny Brighton studio on innovative projects, from Internet of Things prototypes to substantial digital change programmes. Job description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Visual Designer/Art Director with a genuine passion for digital design, brand and technology, to work collaboratively within our multi-disciplined, agile design team. You’ll have a hands-on approach and be able to visualise a project's essence, taking it from an initial idea to a brilliantly crafted execution.

We need someone who can hit the ground running and work closely with clients from day one. You’ll lead the creative execution across multiple large scale projects, finding ways to translate customer experience strategies into beautiful visual interfaces. In addition you’ll act as mentor to a dynamic group of designers; playing an instrumental role in boosting the creative output of the team, reviewing work and ensuring the output is of a consistently high standard.

On a typical day in the studio you will be:

  • Designing cutting-edge digital products for global brands

  • Using design to help meet clients' strategic business objectives, either working within brand guidelines, or helping to shape and create them

  • Ensuring design quality and consistency throughout the project life-cycle

  • Collaborating with all members of The Unit team from Service Design, UX and other Visual Designers, to Developers and Senior Management, on a wide range of interesting digital projects

  • Putting pen to paper, or pixels to screen to make ideas come to life

  • Assisting with business development in leading pitching work


Skills range

  • Several years’ experience as a Senior Designer/Art Director, and a strong portfolio which showcases your skills in form, function, colour, typography and Visual Design

  • Solid agency experience, designing responsive interactive products and services across multiple digital platforms

  • An intuitive ability to empathise and understand the user's experience

  • Experience mentoring and directing the output of other designers and getting the most from them

  • The ability to think outside the box and challenge existing design patterns

  • Exceptional design skills, an awareness of new trends and a passion for innovation and emerging technologies

  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced agency environment, with strong problem-solving skills and independent self-direction, coupled with a collaborative approach

  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to run design workshops with clients, with the gravitas to sell your ideas

  • Knowledge of designing for accessibility standards

  • Technical skills such as Sketch, motion graphics, 3D video and interaction prototyping tools

  • A high-level understanding of web technologies such as HTML, CSS and Javascript

  • Experience in branding

  • Illustration skills would be a bonus
